The Schengen Area’s Weight On Greece’s Economic Recovery
The European Union’s policy of unrestricted internal borders, forming what is otherwise known as the Schengen Area, has been foundational for the economy of modern-day Europe. However, the Greek government has criticized the Schengen Area for siphoning away skilled Greek citizens, thus losing one of the nation’s most valuable resources–human capital. As a response, the Greek government has tried implementing economic policies to promote migration to Greece, but it is still too early to label it as a definitive success.
